Shanahan is done as a New York Ranger
Tom Renney closed the door Brendan Shanahan's service as a New York Ranger Thursday and effectively closed the door on the 650-goal scorer's wish of playing another season on Broadway. Shanahan, waiting since the start of summer for a call and a contract from GM Glen Sather, has decided to consider offers from other teams.
Asked to sum up Shanahan's two-season tenure in New York, Renney said: "Excellent. Very good leader. ... He brought a lot of wisdom to our dressing room, to our bench, to the ice surface. Certainly helped me a lot, as a coach and a player, just with anecdotal things, a scenario, a hypothetical here and there - how could you not tap into that?" |
